Sancti Wellness gardens were built with a Permaculture https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Permaculture design. The house and gardens are integrated and promote local economy. Sancti’s philosophy is to promote wellness for individuals and communities in small sustainable spaces.
The gardens are planted utilizing organic polyculture (many species) methods which are forms of agricultural growing. Herbs, vegetables and flowers are grown to mimic a natural ecosystem. Rain water and snow melt is captured in a 5000 gallon water cistern and used as a main water source. Plants are checked by a moisture meter prior to receiving water. Xeriscape plants are part of the design and include vegetables, herbs and flowers. Excellent soil development and mulch save water and enable plants to better survive dry summers.
Permaculture and polyculture work together to promote soil fertility, decrease soil erosion, and utilize less water. The soil is not tilled so soil nutrients and microbes are conserved. Pests and weeds are dealt with utilizing natural predators or hand weeded out.
Small batches of plants and seeds are grown and harvested by hand. Amounts harvested consider the natural environment in order to promote balance and support pollinators.
Fresh Herbs and flowers help feed those living in the house which is also located on the property. Excess produce is sold fresh or dried at the Peachland Farmers Market within a 3km radius. Dried herbs and flowers are also available for sale at Sancti at the market.
In the winter as the garden rests, art that abstractly reflects Peachland and surrounding area is developed.
Sancti also produces a line of aromatherapy products as Darlene, the owner is an aromatherapist who loves plants and making their benefits accessible for people. Please join her at the Peachland Farmers Market on Sundays 10-2 until from June to September yearly.
